Three ways to Overcome the Winter Blues

This close to Christmas it is easy to get into the festive spirit but for the rest of the winter months, we often get the winter blues.

Winter Blues

With it being dark when you get to the office and dark when you leave, it can be easy to feel as though you’ll never see daylight again, and the cold weather makes people especially susceptible to illness. With this in mind, it can be easy to feel a little down before the big day. Here are three top tips on beating the winter blues:

Go To Bed Sleepyhead

We all know that on cold, dark, wet December mornings it is incredibly hard to get out of bed (especially if you haven’t got the heating on). For this reason, you simply have to start getting into bed earlier. In the days of modern technology, it is easier than ever to record those late night shows so there is absolutely no reason to stay up until late at night. The more sleep you can get the better and the more that you can sleep and recover, the less likely you are to pick up bouts of cold and flu.

Scale Down Your Commitments

Christmas is a time for seeing your family and friends but, if you overstretch yourself, you can easily tire yourself out. Sometimes saying ‘no’ can be better than saying ‘yes’ and you need to make sure that you choose an option that suits you. There’s no use rushing around constantly to try and greet every family member you know just for the sake of it because, if you do, you’ll end up burnt out well in advance of the big day. Likewise, with shopping, plan before you buy to save a last minute rush.

Sort Out Those Aches and Pains

Finally, if anything is wrong, sort it out. There’s no use waiting until the New Year as you need to be pain free well in advance of that. With the winter blues bound to set in at some stage, any injuries will merely exaggerate the feeling.

So, if you’re suffering from foot or back pain then you should seriously consider seeing a specialist like Black Swan Osteopathy, consider it a Christmas present to yourself. Likewise, if you’re suffering from cold or flu, make sure that you go and see your doctor immediately as not only could it affect your own Christmas, you could pass it on to your friends and family and leave the whole family in bed on Christmas day.
